A scholarly profile.
Hyun-Jin Hong, M.D. is a neurosurgeon whose clinical practice and academic interests center on the surgical management of degenerative disorders of the spine, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive and endoscopic technique.
Education and Training
Dr. Hong completed his neurosurgical residency training within The Catholic University of Korea Medical Center system, including The Catholic University of Korea Bucheon St. Mary's Hospital. He also served as Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, The Catholic University of Korea. His clinical expertise in biportal endoscopic spine surgery developed through clinical practice at Wiltse Memorial Hospital.
Professional Appointments
- — Director, Education Center, Spine Center, Wiltse Memorial Hospital (Suwon Branch).
- — Director, Spine Center, Wiltse Memorial Hospital (Anyang Branch).
- — Adjunct Assistant Professor, Department of Neurosurgery, The Catholic University of Korea.
Subspecialty Interests
Dr. Hong's clinical practice centers on biportal endoscopic spine surgery (UBE), with operative experience across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Specific areas of endoscopic focus include biportal endoscopic decompression for degenerative spinal stenosis, biportal endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (UBE-TLIF), biportal endoscopic discectomy, posterior cervical foraminotomy via biportal endoscopic approach, and biportal endoscopic thoracic decompression for ossification-related compressive myelopathy. His broader practice also encompasses microscopic minimally invasive procedures including lumbar microdiscectomy, minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF), anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), and cervical artificial disc replacement, along with percutaneous vertebroplasty for osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures. He also performs a range of fluoroscopically guided spinal pain interventions and selected intradiscal procedures. His published work has examined comparative outcomes between biportal endoscopic, uniportal endoscopic, and conventional microscopic techniques, with particular attention to learning curve, technical refinement, and the indications and limitations of minimally invasive endoscopic approaches.
